Looking at a situation where she did not have a job and I would be out of mine if I really quit with no plan whatsoever, I said to her: "What if we are going to starve in a year's time?" Her response: "We won't!" Since then, a journey began where I started an initiative on renewable energy, one on company founders, where I consulted in fashion (me!) and even produced a lookbook (had no idea what that was before I did it), spent two years in Marrakesh, taught refugee children, looked at the education market, rolled out a new business for Statista, became partner at a SaaS company. Yet I felt stuck, thought of taking a leave of absence when my (American) wife said: Just leave! We had lived in NY before and she had quit her job to join me to Hamburg and then had our first child. ![]() In 2007, I was Head of Business Development at a major German publishing house - and given the employment laws are there, it was basically a job for life with a contract that could, as such, not be terminated by my employer. #opentowork #feelthefear #rightchoice #futureforward To anyone feeling as I was - burned out and churned out - sometimes ‘feeling the fear and doing it anyway’ is just the motivation we need to make the right choices in life. I’m taking some very well earned time out, doing lots of Pilates, travelling to the UK with my family, and will be ready to apply my usual full throttle to new opportunities come August. So here I am, proudly bearing the ‘Open to Work’ badge of honour and extremely excited at what the future holds for me. While I loved and was proud of working for a company and brands I have admired all my adult life, in a nutshell, it was time to listen to my inner voice and cut the cord! At this stage of my life and career, it was not a decision taken lightly and was actually like literally having to throw myself into the abyss of the unknown. I’m not usually one to post about myself on this platform but I have been inspired by many recent stories to do so…Ī few weeks ago and after 8 challenge filled and mostly rewarding years, I opted to take a redundancy from my GM role at News Corp.
